With the development of economy and the change of lifestyle, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become the most common liver disease in the world. It is a major risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma and is also associated with the increased risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway is at the center of cell growth and metabolism and is involved in many metabolic diseases. A large number of studies have shown that inhibition of mTOR is beneficial for alleviating NAFLD. In this paper, the role of mTOR pathway in lipid metabolism of NAFLD and its research progress are summarized as follows.
